Carnival Sunshine Drydocking in Europe Ahead of New Norfolk Homeport

he Carnival Sunshine is currently undergoing drydocking as it prepares to set sail from its new homeport in Norfolk, Virginia.

After completing a final voyage from Charleston earlier this month, the ship embarked on a trans-Atlantic journey to France on January 4, 2025. It was scheduled to arrive in Marseille on January 15 for its drydock maintenance.

During this routine procedure, the 2,964-passenger vessel will receive essential technical updates, as well as perform class-required work and general upkeep on its hotel and guest areas.

Following the drydock, the 1996-built ship will return to North America for a series of cruises from Norfolk starting in mid-February.

In its new year-round deployment, Carnival Sunshine will offer six- to eight-night sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean, with regular stops at Carnival Corporation’s exclusive private islands, Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays.

Additionally, after summer itineraries to Bermuda, the ship will begin sailing to Carnival’s new private destination, Celebration Key, in late September.

Originally launched as the Carnival Destiny, the ship underwent an extensive renovation in 2013, completely transforming its interiors and public spaces to enhance the guest experience.
