Viking Expands Fleet with Two New Cruise Ships and Additional Options

Fincantieri, one of the world’s leading shipbuilders, has announced the signing of contracts with Viking for the construction of two new cruise ships, further strengthening their long-standing partnership. These vessels, based on previous designs built for Viking by Fincantieri, are scheduled for delivery in 2030. Each ship will have a tonnage of 54,300 tons and a guest capacity of 998.

In addition to these confirmed orders, Viking and Fincantieri have also agreed on options for the construction of four additional ships. If exercised, these vessels would be delivered between 2031 and 2032, expanding Viking’s fleet even further.

Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, emphasized the significance of this new order, stating: “This agreement not only strengthens our order book but ensures sustained work in our shipyards for the long term. It also positions Fincantieri as a leader in naval engineering innovation, especially in driving the industry’s transition towards energy efficiency and sustainability. Our commitment to integrating cutting-edge technologies aligns with the climate challenges and opportunities outlined in our Industrial Plan.”

The partnership between Viking and Fincantieri, which began in 2012, continues to flourish. To date, their collaboration includes a total of 22 ships, encompassing both ocean-going vessels and two specialized expedition ships built by Fincantieri’s Norwegian subsidiary, Vard.

This new order underscores Viking’s dedication to expanding its premium cruise offerings while investing in state-of-the-art ships designed for the future of sustainable travel.
